Background Information
The Farmer Field School (FFS) approach aims to strengthen the capacity of farmers and local communities by experimenting, discussing, and analyzing their production systems, identifying their main constraints, and testing possible solutions and needs to become more productive, profitable, and responsive to changing conditions. Farmer Field Schools are conducted for the purpose of creating a learning environment in which farmers can master and apply specific management skills. The emphasis is on empowering farmers to implement their own decisions in their fields.
FFS is a learning method of the adult education system or school without walls; each FFS examines and solves the problems of farmers based on the facilities available on the field. Livestock FFS may help to improve livestock management and husbandry practices by improving general skills on job training for farmers, increasing productivity and quality of the products with an emphasis on high-nutritive food, and increasing community and family solidarity.
