Background Information

A devastating drought deteriorated people's food security in Somalia over a period of five consecutive cropping seasons. In response, FAO utilized data from the Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit as of December 2022, to guide an intervention to support their production and ensure people could meet their basic needs. FAO reached 1 200 drought-stricken farming households with inputs, such as seeds (cowpea, maize, mung bean and vegetable), tools and storage bags for their harvests. To complement this, FAO will also disburse nearly USD 54 000 in cash transfers to people living along the river to assist them in resuming production.
