02 November 2021, Kilifi, Kenya - Menza Charo, 34, secretary of the "Mnarari Conversation Agriculture Service Provider Youth Group", demonstrates how to apply foliar feed, a fertilizer sprayed onto plants. The combined effects of crop and pasture losses caused by desert locust, COVID-19 related mitigation measures, and consecutive below-average rainy seasons have placed communities in the arid and semi-arid lands of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia at risk of severe food insecurity and loss of livelihood.
