EGYPT 1948. FAO Near-Eastern Conference at Cairo

14 February 1948, Cairo - A group of delegates to the Near-Eastern Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) pictured outside the Agricultural Museum, Cairo. In foreground, centre, is Sir John Boyd-Orr, Director-General of FAO. The Conference, held in Cairo's Agricultural Museum, discussed ways and means to provide the Near-East with capital equipment and technical assistance for the development of a world granary, as in ancient times. Artesian and river potentialities for irrigation in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt were examined, as well as problems of animal and plant diseases control.
