Background Information
To add to the level of local food supplies, and to foster the growth of a national fishing industry the government of Zambia, with the help of the UN Special Fund and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as its Executing Agency, is establishing a Research Institute to investigate the hydro-biological, technological and economic aspects of the fisheries potential of Lake Kariba. The project also provides for demonstration and training programmes in fishing and related activities.
