UKRAINE 2024. Various FAO projects and areas of work across the country
20 February 2024. Mykolaivska oblast, Ukraine. In war-torn Mykolaiv, Bread Factory No. 1, established in 1970, remains a beacon of resilience, continuing to operate despite explosions and power outages. The factory overcame its hardest moment on 13 May 2022, when a strike disrupted power and gas, resuming operations within hours thanks to a 450-kilowatt diesel generator provided by FAO. Today, the bakery not only supplies local stores but also delivers bread to frontline areas, providing a vital lifeline to communities in Khersonska and Mykolaivska oblasts.
