Background Information
In Uganda, a three-year project funded by IKEA Foundation aimed at fostering sustainable, long-term solutions that go beyond humanitarian aid and support refugees and host communities alike. By creating opportunities for both groups, the project sought to enable refugees to contribute to the local economy with the intent of reducing potential social tensions. The project provided support in the production of passion fruit through the creation of Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and the creation of nurseries to produce passion fruit seedlings to be distributed to project participants alongside agricultural tools. Research generates evidence on the impact of these interventions. In 2021, 2023 and then in 2024, FAO collected data for the impact evaluation of the project, to assess its impact on several dimensions of well-being of refugees and host communities. The data collection was conducted in close collaboration with various FAO offices, including FAO Uganda, FAO Kenya, and the ESP/SERA Team at FAO HQ.
