SRI LANKA, 2025. Pineapple Research Centre Director
19 February 2025. Makandura, Sri Lanka. Dr Darshani Jayamanne, the Additional Director of the Pineapple Research Centre, is an agronomist who designed a propegation system to grow pineapple suckers in the field. In the picture, Dr Jayamanne poses with a pineapple sucker that was grown using her system. The propegation process uses salt and detergent baths to purify the pineapple crown leaves, which are then placed in a solid soil medium.

Background Information
The purpose of the mission was to document and share knowledge about good practices, results, and lessons learned from the FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Project in Sri-Lanka (GCP/SRL/073/CPR). This was achieved through meetings and interviews of relevant stakeholders, from beneficiaries to senior government, and stakeholders involved in the project.
The visit also aimed to discuss with relevant stakeholders, including senior-level government officials, major progress, milestone achievements and key challenges, as well as suggestions to improve the implementation of the project.
