FORESTRY FACULTY AT UNIVERSITY COLLEGE IN IBADAN, Nigeria, February 1967.
Due to a limited supply of timber, and increasing demands for firewood and lumber for construction, Nigeria has felt it imperative to develop better management of rain forests and reforestation in ,the savannahs. The UN Development Programme (UNDP), through the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is assisting over a six-year period in setting up a Forestry Faculty at University College, Ibadan. Established in 1963, the Ibadan course includes instruction in forestry policy, law, management, utilization and technology. Most of the graduates subsequently go to work for the Nigerian Forestry Service.
