Background Information Two failed harvests and prolonged dry spells had pushed thousands of families in Guro to the brink. As El Niño disrupted traditional rainfall patterns, crops withered before maturity, and food insecurity intensified. Now, with support from the Government of Mozambique and FAO, and funding from CERF, farming households are regaining their footing.
In early 2025, FAO began distributing emergency agricultural inputs across the most affected localities in Guro to more than 7 000 families. Through in-kind packages, families received seeds, tools, and technical support to plant again and prepare for the next season. For many, it marked the first step toward recovery after months of uncertainty.
The images captured here tell the story of three families. In Guro, hope is being sown—one seed at a time.
