Background Information
With design and implementation support from FAO, the Jharkhand Opportunities for Harnessing Rural Growth (JOHAR) programme has empowered Jharkhand’s women by investing in agricultural technologies and opening access to markets. With access to quality seeds and inputs through JOHAR-supported agri-marts, and machinery from Custom Hiring Centres (CHC), Monica and other farmers can boost their productivity and incomes. They sell their produce at better prices through JOHAR-supported agribusinesses. She also benefits from guidance provided by Pashu Sakhis – community-based agricultural service providers trained in partnership with the Agriculture Sector Skills Council of India – who provide technical, business and market advice to farmers.
