Farmer Field Schools in Kenya
07 November 2003, Bondo, Kenya - Fishermen participating in the Farmer Field School working with special nets on Lake Victoria in an effort to conserve the dwindling fish stocks.
FAO Project: TCP/KEN/2901 - Horn of Africa Initiative: Reducing Chronic Hunger in Bondo District. Objectives: The aim of the proposed TCP project is to develop and gain experience in the initial implementation of a District level institutional model for supporting community-driven food security projects while, at the same time, having a positive, rapid and inclusive impact on the health and nutrition of selected communities within Bondo District. The model, which would be subject to adjustment during implementation on the basis of acquired experience, would enable communities to plan and implement small-scale activities contributing to food security, with technical support from the line departments, NGOs and trained facilitators selected from amongst their members. The project is experimental and seen as providing a significant learning opportunity for both the GoK and FAO as they search for increasingly effective means of achieving the goals of the World Food Summit.
