19 February 2018, Rural Damascus, Syria - Samar Rajeh, 48 years, lives in Qatana district - Rural Damascus, she is a resident there with her husband (who works and earn a very limited amount of income), she has two children: a boy 15 years old (student) and a girl 24 years old (she is divorced). Samar and her family owns a three dunoms land, which they depend on it as a source of income as well, she works in farming to support her family with variety of fresh vegetables, and to sell her products to the local market. 
FAO distributed 2000 winter vegetable seeds package of bean, peas, spinach, chard, cabbage seedlings and drip irrigation kit, to 2000 affected women headed-households in Rural Damascus. This intervention comes under a project where FAO reached a total of 3000 female-headed households (18 000 persons) in Rural Damascus and Homs governorates. By means of this intervention, the project aims to empower women by supporting them with a source of income, and improve their families' food and nutrition security through family farming.
This intervention comes in collaboration with UNFPA and targets affected communities with a variety of activities to enhance resilience through women empowerment and livelihood improvement .
