Background Information
The FAO Investment Centre (CFI) supports the COCAFORI project and the Sustainable Cocoa Initiative (SCP) in Cameroon to map agroforestry cocoa systems and assess their impact on forests. Since most cocoa is cultivated beneath the forest canopy, the discarded cocoa pods naturally decompose on the forest floor, enriching the soil and supporting the sustainability of the agroforestry system.
